Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord… Colossians 3:23
Worship Volunteers Needed
Ushers, Hospitality Volunteers, Communion Volunteers, First Responders, Greeters, Video Operators
Join one of our Worship Volunteer Teams and experience the blessing of serving others. Your service once every five weeks will help provide a warm and welcoming worship experience at St. Andrew's. We especially need volunteers at our 10:15 (Sanctuary & Great Hall) and 11:30 a.m. services. Contact Joan McCormick, 651-762-9132 to learn more about using your gifts at St. Andrew's in one of these critical areas.
Summer Reading and Math Tutors
East Metro Women's Council is a transitional, anti-poverty housing program for low-income and homeless families. They are seeking tutoring volunteers (ages 16 - adult) to work with children K-9. Volunteers work individually (and in groups) reading and playing games with children for 1 1/2 hours every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. The program will be held at East Metro Place, White Bear Lake, MN. Contact Carol Bryan, Volunteer Program Manager at 651-773-8401, ext. 116.
May Spa Day
Join us as we welcome the women and children living at the Tubman Family Alliance domestic violence shelters for a morning of relaxation, friendly conversation, and a chance to get away. Our volunteers are people who just have an idea to do something nice for others in need. There is no training offered and none really needed. Bring your own "spa type" supplies (nail polish, hand wax machine, foot soak, etc.) and help a woman relax. Serve behind the scenes by providing hospitality through breakfast, decorations, and ambience. Share your love with children who need an extra smile from someone. If you would like to be a part of the experience in the kitchen, providing hospitality, playing with the children, being hands-on with the women, making crafts together, or any other idea that might be fun, please contact Susan Asplund at 651-762-9124. We do not publish the date for protection of the families in the program. Men and older boys are welcomed to hang out in the gym with the boys that come with their moms.
Loaves and Fishes
We will be serving an evening meal at the Dorothy Day Center on Tuesday, May 27, and Tuesday, July 22, beginning at 4 p.m. Rice Krispies are welcomed in the church kitchen no later than 1 p.m on that day. Contact Chris Egge at 651-426-3731 for more information.
St. Andrew's Cookbook
Look for the display tables in the Great Hall and the Sanctuary to purchase the St. Andrew's Cookbook for $15. This project will provide much needed funding for on-site feeding programs, such as the Easter and Thanksgiving baskets, Loaves and Fishes, and more. For information, contact Susan Asplund at 651-762-9124.
Weekly Watering Teams
Keep those beautiful containers on St. Andrew's campus blooming beautifully throughout the season by participating on the watering team. You get to drive a golf cart! Training is available. Contact Lisa Ender at 651-762-9139.
Join Hands Day
Saturday, May 3
This national day of service brings youth and adults together to help others, improve communities, build lasting relationships, and have some fun. Join us from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Lakeview Cemetery in Mahtomedi. Children under 16 must have an adult or leader with them and transportation is not provided. Do not drop off your child without supervision. Teams will rake, clean headstones, and may plant new bushes. This event is the last of the three service events required for Confirmation. It may also be used for service hours or fellowship hours. You must register with Susan Asplund by May 1 at 651-762-9124.
Food Outreach Distribution
June 25, 2-8 p.m.
On June 25 we will welcome approximately 400 families to pick up budget-relieving food products and household items through our partnership with Second Harvest Heartland and funding through the North Ramsey County Chapter of Thrivent. We will need about 30-40 volunteers to help unload the semi of food in the afternoon, set up the distribution area, serve the guests, carry out food to their cars, clean up and take any leftover product to the Mahtomedi food shelf. Different shifts and non-lifting opportunities available. Due to Second Harvest restrictions, students must be at least 12 to participate on site (but younger students could be a part of the delivery teams). Excellent way to meet others interested in alleviating hunger in our communities. Contact Susan Asplund at 651-762-9124.
Rainbow Summer Carnival
July 22, 5-7 p.m.
Join us for some great fun in the sun at the Rainbow Child Development Center. All talents needed to make this project a success. Can you juggle? Draw in a straight line? Hand out books as prizes? Paint faces or nails? Walk around with a smile on your face? Great opportunity for families to serve together - all ages welcome! Contact Mugs DeFore at 651-430-1486 to register.
VBS - Power Lab
June 16-20, 8:30 am - 12 noon
Want to be involved in the most fun week of the year? VBS can be an awesome opportunity for youth to be involved leading children in a week of fun and learning. Grades 6-8 assist preschool children or assist in an elementary workshop, and confirmed young people lead small groups of elementary children. Youth can also help paint and set up the "Power Lab" in the Great Hall the week before VBS begins. For more information contact Mary Bjurstrom (preschool assistants) at 651-762-9171 or Pat Derry (elementary assistants) at 651-762-9126.
Summer Confirmation Service Opportunities
Don't forget that you can complete your service hour requirements for Confirmation by participating in projects throughout the summer, either for the year past or for the year ahead. It is your responsibility to sign up, to participate, and to complete and turn in the service hour form at the information desks in each building. A couple of examples of perfect opportunities are helping with Vacation Bible School, the Food Outreach program, Rainbow Carnival, weekly watering teams, Loaves and Fishes and much more. Contact Susan Asplund for more information at 651-762-9124.
