Sunday School FAQs

1. Why do Elementary Sunday School children change rooms?

Sunday School children change rooms so they can use the room that best fits the type of activity used to teach the lesson. Sunday School uses the Workshop Rotation Model of Sunday School, which allows children to study Bible stories through many different types of learning. Everyone has pathways of learning that are more appealing than others – some love physical activity, some appreciate quiet activity, some come alive with music, and some perk up when they work on computers. When lessons are taught in a way you like to learn, they become exciting and more meaningful. Only rooms in the Great Hall allow the children to use the kitchen and computers. Only rooms in the Youth and Sports Center allow children to experience large motor activities and view videos. By changing rooms, our children are assured that they will learn Bible stories through some of their favorite activities. In this way children grow in knowledge as well as a positive openness to learning about God.

2. Why do Sunday School children repeat one story for 3-4 weeks?

Educators have long realized that it is necessary to repeat information in order to retain it. When children hear the same story through several different lessons, they remember it better. They are also able to go deeper into the material, and have a greater chance of personally reflecting on the importance of that lesson. When repetition is coupled with active learning, the lesson has a very good chance of sinking deep into a child’s mind and heart – where faith grows.
