Faith5 is a simple faith practice that can be done at bedtime, after a meal, or at a special time for quiet each day. Faith5 includes five simple steps:
Share your highs and lows
Read a Bible verse or story
Talk about how the Bible reading might relate to your highs and lows, or what you heard that feels important
Pray for one another’s highs and lows
Bless one another
Our Aug. 22/23 Faith5 Lesson:
The Ten Commandments
Gather everyone in a comfortable spot and get settled in.
Invite each member of your family to share their highs and lows for the day. You can use the words blessings and bummers instead. Someone might choose to pass or not have anything to share, and that’s ok.
Read the Gospel text found in Matthew 19:16-22 on page 1097 in the Connect Bible, or read The Ten Commandments from the Spark Story Bible (pg. 94) or in the Connect Bible (pg. 212).
Talk about the Spark Bible story or Gospel text, taking turns offering what you heard that relates to high/lows or what felt important.
Pray for one another’s highs and lows. These words can help you get started – “Dear God, Thank you for loving us so much and for giving us important rules to follow. Some of your rules can be sort of hard to follow, but I will always do my best. Thank you for (blessings). Today, please help me with (bummers). Please help me share your love with everyone I meet, today and every day. Amen.”
Bless one another. Take turns making the sign of the cross on each other’s foreheads, saying simply, “God loves you and so do I.”
Song: “Blessed Be Your Name” from Camp Wapo!
Camp Wapo has recorded lots of worship songs this summer and made them available on their Vimeo channel. This one is a good one! A little side note – Abbie, the singer on the left with the guitar and Chris, the tall guy in the middle both grew up at my (Laurel’s) home church in Woodbury. You could grow up to be a Wapo counselor, too!!
Activity: Faith5 Bonus Devotion and Learning
Faith5 Mid-Week Devotion:
Follow the 5 steps above to share a mid-week devotion based on Deuteronomy 5:12-15 (pg. 212 in the Connect Bible). This is the passage in the Bible when Moses received the Ten Commandments from God. Read the intro page to Deuteronomy on page 205 to learn lots of interesting details about this important book.
