What is Faith5?
Faith5 is a simple faith practice that can be done at bedtime, after a meal, or at a special time for quiet each day. Faith5 includes five simple steps:
Share your highs and lows
Read a Bible verse or story
Talk about how the Bible reading might relate to your highs and lows, or what you heard that feels important
Pray for one another’s highs and lows
Bless one another
Our Sept. 5/6 Faith5 Lesson:
Jesus Cleanses the Temple
Gather everyone in a comfortable spot and get settled in.
Invite each member of your family to share their highs and lows for the day. You can use the words blessings and bummers instead. Someone might choose to pass or not have anything to share, and that’s ok.
Read the Gospel text found in Matthew 21:12-17 on page 1100 in the Connect Bible, or read (watch the video) Jesus Stops the Temple Markettold from the book of John. This story is not found in our Spark Story Bible, but it is found in the Gospels of Mark (11:15-17), Luke (19:45-46) and John (2:13-22)! It’s a great lesson about respecting God’s house – our church home. Pay special attention to Matthew 21:15-16 to learn about how people heard the children praising God.
Talk about the Gospel text of story (video), taking turns offering what you heard that relates to high/lows or what felt important.
Pray for one another’s highs and lows. These words can help you get started – “Dear God, it’s important that we remember that your house is a place for prayer, praising you and helping others. Thank you for always hearing the voices of kids when we’re at St. Andrew’s – and everywhere! Thank you for (blessings). Today, please help me with (bummers). Please help me share your love with everyone I meet, today and every day. Amen.”
Bless one another. Take turns making the sign of the cross on each other’s foreheads, saying simply, “God loves you and so do I.”
Song: Praise Ye the Lord
The people in the temple in today’s story should have been praising God and praying, not selling things and being disrespectful. Sing your praises to God today!
