Help Us Host a Warm Space for Unsheltered Neighbors

St. Andrew’s will open our doors to unsheltered neighbors starting January 11, 2021, as temperatures get colder and we move into the coldest part of winter. We will offer a warm space for Washington and Ramsey County residents from 10 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.  Depending on the weather, there is a possibility of temperature-triggered overnight stays.  St. Andrew’s is building on similar support we provided to our neighbors during the winter of 2019.

In our Youth & Sports Center, we have created a place of respite, a place for our neighbors to be warm.  Guests will have the opportunity to rest on cots in their designated space, have lunch and sign up for a time to shower.

How You Can Help

We’re looking for people to help with lunches  (please provide food for 12 people) as well as provide hospitality.  Volunteers will have light duties such as checking in guests, putting together and cleaning up lunch, keeping track of the shower sign-up, etc.

We have a robust COVID-19 safety plan in place. See details below.

Shifts are 9:30 – 12:45 and 12:30-3:30, Monday through Thursday. We may extend hours to provide overnight shelter on nights when it is bitterly cold. Watch for more information about additional shifts.

COVID-19 Safety Plan in Place

Much care has been taken to transform our gym space in our Youth and Sports building into a safe place for employees, volunteers, and guests.  Here are a few of our safety considerations:

  1. The HVAC system is set to continuously exchange air.
  2. High gymnasium ceilings.
  3. Plexiglass dividers at our check-in table.
  4. PPE, including masks and gloves.
  5. COVID-19 approved cleaning procedures.
  6. Room fogger (used when the building does not have guests).
  7. Individual spaces within the gym designed by our Habitat and facilities crews.

If you would like to see the Youth & Sports Center and learn more about how COVID-19 safety procedures are implemented, please contact Kris Mason, Community Resource Center Program Supervisor, to set up an appointment.
