Why? Hunger affects more families in our community than ever. In fact, food insecurity exists in every county in America and nearly 6 million households in the U.S. have relied on food from local food pantries.
Who is Meals from the Heart? Meals from the Heart is a global mission organization, based in Stillwater, that brings people together to serve their neighbors through energized and fun meal-packing events that provide flavorful, fortified meals to local food shelves. Meals from the Heart has packed over 15 million meals since 2008, with teams from corporations, faith communities, schools and more.
What can you expect on the day of the event?
- You will arrive at the Youth & Sports Center and will be asked to sign a liability waiver, wear a face mask and complete a COVID Questionnaire, then directed to a hand sanitizing station. Teams of 10 people will be formed and will perform one or several steps in the food packing process. Staff from Meals from the Heart will be on hand to train and answer questions. The activity is easy and fun!
- The packing shift will be fun and high energy! You’ll spend about 20 minutes learning how to prepare the food kits, and the remaining 40 minutes putting food kits together.
- We’ll be combining the ingredients into Veggies ‘N’ Rice packs. Each fortified meal (developed by a chef and nutritionist) includes rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, spices, and a packet containing essential vitamins and minerals.
- Each shift will have a maximum of 60 people — six teams of 10 people each, spread out and socially distanced in the Youth & Sports Center. All work areas will be cleaned and sanitized between shifts.
Your contributions gratefully accepted as freewill donations
A freewill donation will be collected, with a suggested amount of $25 per participant to support the cost of ingredients, materials and transportation. The true cost is approximately $60 per participant, so you’re invited to give more if you’re able – although all are welcome to sign up regardless of donation amount! Interested in being a sponsor at $500 or $1,000? Contact Brian Norsman using our Contact Us form.
