The Confirmation program culminates with four weeks of large group and small group sessions followed by a capstone retreat, focused on the five promises that youth make during their Confirmation vows. These last few weeks are built to celebrate each confirmand for the promises they are about to make and to empower them to know and use their spiritual gifts.
Confirmation Weekend includes a Saturday brunch for families, a Saturday morning celebration service of our Confirmands’ accomplishments, and Confirmation Sunday.
Fall 2019 Schedule:
Sept. 11 – Orientation (Sanctuary 6:30-7:15 p.m.)
Overview and orientation to the 9th Grade Confirmation program, for all 9th grade Confirmation youth and a parent/guardian.
Sept. 18-Oct.9 – Small Groups and Large Group (Great Hall, 6:30-8:15 p.m.)
Four weekly gatherings begin with small groups (6:30-7:15 p.m.) and move into a large group session in Great Hall (7:30-8:15 p.m.), lead by youth ministry staff and pastors and focused on the promises made during the Confirmation celebration.
Oct. 2 – Stole Making (Optional) 5-6:15 p.m. in Youth and Sports Center
Youth are able to come and work on their stoles. General art supplies will be available (i.e. fabric markers, puffy paint, and foam stickers). Things that are specific (sports emblems, musical instruments, stickers, patches) will need to be gathered before by individuals. We ask that a parent comes to help the youth work on their stoles if possible.
Oct. 12-13 – 9th Grade Confirmation Capstone Retreat at Camp Wapo, Amery, WI
The retreat is a highlight of the Confirmation experience, with final small group time, worship, learning, and fellowship. The group gathers at St. Andrew’s Saturday at 8 a.m. and returns on Sunday at 12 noon. All youth are expected to participate (fee is included in the Confirmation registration). Youth should bring completed stoles to share with small groups; they are collected and displayed in the Sanctuary until Oct. 26.
Oct. 26 – Celebration of Confirmation Worship Service (Sanctuary 10:30 a.m.)
All Confirmation youth and their families join for a worship service to celebrate and bless their accomplishments, with a breakfast served before or after the service according to their small group. During the service, youth wear their robes, share Confirmation Bible verses, hear from small group leaders, and participate in the rite of passage as they “make faith their own.”
Oct. 27 – Confirmation Skipping Stone Celebration
The Confirmation experience culminates with a recognition and blessing of youth during 9, 10:15, or 10:30 a.m. worship services (families are assigned to a service based on preferences indicated on the registration.)
