Confirmation Ministry (Grades 6-9)
Lenten Mentor Talk Sheets
Confirmation at St. Andrew’s is a three-year program for middle school youth to dive deeper into their faith, be challenged and grow, and ultimately begin to make faith their own. The program culminates in the fall of the 9th grade year, where youth make public affirmation of their faith, confirming (thus “Confirmation”) they accept the free gift of God’s grace given in their baptism.
Confirmation involves weekly participation in fun, energetic large group sessions paired with intimate, reflective small groups of 5-10 youth led by a small group guide. Youth can choose to attend on Wednesday evenings (a larger, more high energy atmosphere) or a Sunday afternoon track (smaller, quieter atmosphere). In addition to weekly sessions, youth participate in the Lenten Mentor program, which pairs each Confirmation student with a caring adult for several weeks each spring, as well as the opportunity to attend our annual Confirmation Camp in June.
The 9th Grade Confirmation program focuses on the five promises that youth make during their Confirmation vows, discussed during weekly sessions and a capstone retreat. The Confirmation celebration weekend (in late October) includes a banquet, a special worship celebration for confirmands and their families, and a Confirmation ceremony during worship.
