This summer I found myself on a boat in deep water. I stood at the edge of a pontoon boat with one goal: sink down as deep as I could to touch the depth of the lake.
Whenever I do this I have mixed results — sometimes I can and sometimes I can’t touch the bottom. If I jump just right and hold my breath I just might find it.
This time I did not. It was a hot day and the deeper I felt myself go, the cooler it got. But no matter how I tried, I could not fathom its depths.
This week in worship, we will attempt to fathom the depths of God’s work in the world. We, along with the disciples, will wonder how much grace it takes for humanity to be saved at the hands of a loving God. We’ll explore the wonders and power that flood to us because of the depth of love that God has for us. And we’ll see how that love has the ability to transform the world around us.
See you this weekend, and let’s get into deep water.
